Former Virginia All-Americans Jay Jalbert and Ryan Curtis were honored at the annual Major League Lacrosse luncheon in Philadelphia.
Jalbert, who plays for the Long Island Lizards, was awarded the league's Most Valuable Player trophy, while Curtis, of the Boston Cannons, was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Led by Jalbert's outstanding play, including his league record 105 ground balls, the Lizards won the league's championship.
Curtis enjoyed his best season to date, finishing second on the team with 41 ground balls and routinely shutting down the opposing offense's most potent weapon.
At Virginia, Jalbert and Curtis played together on the Cavaliers' 1999 national championship squad.
