Cavalier volleyball falls to Florida State, 3-2

The Virginia volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Florida State in Tallahassee yesterday. For the first time this fall, the Cavaliers lost a five-game match (30-20, 13-30, 20-30, 30-19, 15-12) making them short work for their conference opponents.

The Cavaliers had found victories in their first five full-length (five-game) matches of the season, but failed to keep that streak alive yesterday. The loss drops Virginia to 24-8 (8-8 ACC), while the Seminoles improve to 15-15 (5-11 ACC).

The Cavaliers dropped the first and fourth games, leaving the decision to the fifth game. That final game was tied eight times (including an 11-11 tie), but Florida State outscored the Virginia 4-1 to top the Cavaliers 15-12.

Cavs finish NCAA Southeast Regional Championships

Cavalier cross country standout Will Christian led the Virginia men's side with a seventh place 30:19.9 finish in the 10K race and was followed by Walton Kingsbery's 13th place 30:30.9 finish.

On the women's side was led by Jane Maxwell who had a 20:41.2 time and garnered both a 14th place finish and All-Regional runner honors.

National champions to visit White House

The Cavalier men's lacrosse team will travel to Washington, D.C. today to meet President George W. Bush at the White House. The national champions will be honored for their acheivments and will present the President with a national champion Cavalier jersey.
