Cavs softball team sweeps Towson, Owings ties record

The Virginia softball team took two games from the Towson Tigers in a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday. The two victories bring the team's record to 27-20, while the Tigers dropped to 18-19.

The Cavaliers fell behind 3-0 in the day game, but scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings to rally to a 7-3 victory. Virginia had 13 hits and grabbed seven stolen bases, one shy of the school record. Freshman Elea Crockett had two hits and three stolen bases to pace the squad. Her three bags tied the school record.

In the nightcap, senior first baseman Hannah Owings became just the fifth player in Virginia history to hit two homeruns in the same game while leading the Cavaliers to a 9-2 triumph. She had a three-run homer in the second inning and a two-run shot in the fourth.

Freshman Coty Tolar tossed the complete game to record her seventh victory of the season, while allowing two runs on seven hits and one strikeout. The night game ended after six innings because of darkness.
