No. 23 Virginia baseball team hits road to take on Maryland in three-game series

The Cavalier baseball team will put their nine-game winning streak on the line when they travel to Bowie, Md., to square off against the Terps this weekend. Virginia (29-7, 11-4 ACC) will take on a Maryland team (16-18) that is second to last in the ACC with just two victories and 10 losses in the conference.

The Terrapins will not get much relief as they meet a Cavalier pitching staff that has had two of its three starters named ACC Pitcher of the Week this season. The most recent recipient was sophomore Matt Avery (4-1, 2.47 ERA), who tossed his first complete collegiate game and allowed only four hits in Virginia's 3-1 triumph over Clemson Saturday. Ace Andrew Dobies (6-0, 1.89 ERA) is expected to lead off the series today. Dobies won the ACC Pitcher of the Week award March 29. Senior Joe Koshansky (6-1, 2.59 ERA) has been named ACC Player of the Week twice and is scheduled to start game three on Sunday.

This will be Virginia's fifth three-game road series of the season and their third in the last four weekends. The road, however, has treated the team well. The Cavaliers are 14-3 overall in games played away from Davenport Field --- already exceeding their total of eight road triumphs last season.

The Cavaliers have won nine of the last 10 meetings against the Terrapins, including 6-0 and 4-2 victories last year in Charlottesville.
