During the month of October, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport broke its previous passenger record set in March.
The October passenger record was 11.5 percent higher than the 2003 October mark, Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Chairman Kurt Goodwin said.
More than 18,000 passengers traveled through the airport this October -- 2,000 more travelers than in October 2003.
"We are doing a lot to promote the airport," Goodwin said. "We are working very hard, promoting in the Albemarle community [with] aggressive pricing and effective advertising."
The airport is trying to promote the image that it is a convenient place for travel with services that readily accommodate passengers, Goodwin said.
"Instead of driving very far to Dulles, customers can easily use our airport," Goodwin said. "We are not national, but we can get you to places such as Cincinnati or New York, and Dulles. We are easy to get in and out of [and offer] good parking services, and we have competitively priced car rental services."
The Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport averages 15,000 passengers a month."We have our peak-and-valley periods throughout the year, but we average 15,000 a month," Goodwin said. "We hope to have another record month in November."
Despite record travel months, airport officials say they recognize areas that need improvement.
"We are looking at our terminal capacity," Goodwin said. "There is work being done to create runway safety areas."
Officials are using print ads, newspapers, radio and television commercials to promote the airport.
"People are looking for convenience, and we want them to know that we are here for them," Goodwin said.
