Women's lacrosse starts where it left off, earns top spot in preaseason rankings

The defending national champions were picked first in Lacrosse Magazine's preseason poll. In second place is Princeton, the two-time defending champ that Virginia took down in the 2004 NCAA tournament.

Virginia will return nine starters this season looking to defend its crown. The lineup will include Honda Sports and Tewaarton trophy winner Amy Appelt. Her 90 goals and 121 points were both ACC records last year. The Cavaliers also will welcome back Cary Chasney and Meredith Lazarus, who did not play on last year's championship squad due to injury.
