UBE announces new Honor, UJC members

The Honor Committee and University Judiciary Committee representatives from each school were announced by the Board of Elections last night.

Third-year Lauren Ross led the College of Arts & Sciences representatives for Honor with 2,138 votes.

"It's kind of amazing," Ross said. "It's been a long election, and it's nice to know that it's done. I think that all the people who got elected are incredibly well-qualified."

Also elected as a College representative was third-year Stewart Ackerly with 1,656 votes.

"I'm just really honored," Ackerly said. "We just have to hit the ground running and keep making positive changes."

Third-year Brock Saunders, with 1566 votes, was the final College representative elected.

"It's the best feeling in the world," Saunders said. "I'm ready just to get back from Spring Break and get right in."

The Engineering school elected two new representatives, second-year Alison Tramba and third-year Dan Bowman, for Honor.

Third-year Morgan Miles will return to Honor as an Architecture representative along with newcomer third-year Patrick Woods.

The School of Medicine elected Alexander Hawkins and Allyson Morman as Honor representatives.

The executive positions of the Honor Committee will be selected by the elected representatives during their retreat ending March 20.

Second-year Raleigh Anne Blank was elected as one of the College UJC representatives with 1,900 votes.

"The Judiciary organization just celebrated its fiftieth birthday," Blank said. "We're lucky to be coming into an organization at this turning point and to be the people behind it that are going to help see it to the future."

Also elected as College UJC representatives were third-year Tim Ormsby with 1,914 votes and first-year Connor Sullivan with 1,777 votes in this highly contested election.

Ormsby and Sullivan both said they hope to increase the education UJC offers in order to close the gap between the student body and UJC.

In a contested race, third-year Derek Yeung and second-year Pavan Gupta were elected UJC Engineering representatives.

Third-years Leslie Ann Brooks and Megan Fanale were elected Commerce representatives for UJC.

The school of Education elected Graduate student Mike Loeffelman and third-year Sarah Outten.

The School of Nursing elected third-years Kate McArthur and Mandy Cocke.

All other school positions for UJC representatives were uncontested.

The executive positions for UJC will not be filled until the end of the new Committee's training on March 23. The candidates will assume their elected positions April 1.

"I think the group that is coming in is very well-qualified, and they have a lot of great ideas," outgoing UJC Chair Angela Carrico said. "Their membership on UJC should really help it next year."

Those involved with Honor and UJC said they had a generally positive attitude about next year.

UJC "has an extraordinary feel this year," Sullivan said.
