Wrestling recruiting class tabbed 22nd best in nation

Virginia wrestling coach Lenny Bernstein announced yesterday the names of 17 new recruits that make up this year's incoming freshman class. The group was ranked No. 22 in the country by InterMat Wrestling and features 13 first-years and four transfers.

The class is led by Ross Gitomer (125 lbs.) and Brent Jones (197 lbs.) who were both ranked as a top 5 recruit in every recruiting publication, according to a Virginia Athletics press release. Gitomer, who attended Blair Academy in New Jersey, finished in second place at the National High School Wrestling Championships. A recent graduate from Robinson High School in Fairfax, Va., Jones placed third in the National High School Wrestling Championships and also holds a Virginia AAA State Championship.

The group also includes three other state champions, 141-pounder Trevor Bowers (Ohio), 157-pounder Mikey Sewell (Washington) and 133-pounder Eric Albright (Pennsylvania).
