Former Virginia men's golfplayer Kevin O'Connell shot a 9-under par to finish in a tie for 16th place overall in the first stage of the PGA's Qualifying School Oct. 14 in Bogart, Ga.
The 2005 graduate from the University will participate in the second stage of the event in mid-November and the final stage will begin in late November.
The former All-ACC honoree from Potomac, Md. had six top-10 finishes over the course ofhis collegiate career.
In other golf news, the No. 12 Virginia women's team will travel Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the Landfall Tradition from Oct. 28-30.
