Another student has opted to have an open honor trial on Nov. 13, entirely unrelated to the cancelled open trial that had been scheduled for Nov. 6.
According to Vice Chair for Trials Stewart Ackerly, this case has no connection to the Nov. 6 trial, which was closed at the accused student's request.
Ackerly said he didn't know whether the new student's decision was inspired by reports of the Nov. 6 trial.
The Honor Committee will not be releasing any information relating to the case and it is up to the accused student to go public with his or her story.
As in all honor cases, the student has the option of deciding on a closed trial up until the last possible moment.
As with the proposed Nov. 6 trial, approximately 45 tickets will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.These tickets will be available during the week preceding the trial, at the Information Desk on the first floor of Newcomb Hall.
If the accused student decides to go through with the open trial, it will be the first open honor trial in over three years.
As with all honor trials, open or closed, the accused student will be expelled if found guilty of an honor offense.
The last open honor trial, which occurred in 2002, resulted in the conviction and subsequent expulsion of accused student Adam Boyd.
Ackerly announced the open trial to the Honor Committee at last night's meeting.
