Women's eight boat finishes fourth at Head of the Charles Regatta

The Virginia women's crew team placed fourth out of 47 teams in the championship eight competition at the Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday. Coxswain Katie Hilton piloted the team of Ashley Jones, Libby McCann, Andria Haneman, Yvonne Epp, Kerry Maher, Katrin Sydlik, Sara Lippa and Melanie Kok to a 17:00.156 finish. The championship eight squad finished second among college crews.

The Cavaliers placed 12th in the championship four competition. The team achieved a raw time of 19:28.114 but was docked one minute because of a collision penalty. With an official time of 20:28.114, Virginia dropped from 4th to 12th overall. The championship four team was coxswained by Michelle Ellison while Mindy Fiesler, Mieke Pitts, Heather Gardner and Chrissie Monaghan rowed.

The Cavaliers' time of 20:26.028 was good for 10th place out of 57 crews in the youth eight clash.

On October 30, Virginia travels to Princeton, N.J. for its next regatta, the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie.
