Windshields smashed behind Thornton Hall; damages estimated to be $1,300
The rear windshields of two vehicles were shattered in the parking lot behind Thornton Hall early Wednesday morning.
One vehicle owner was Hui Shen, a graduate Engineering student, who discovered the crime at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday after finishing up late-night work in a lab.
Both the cars' rear windows were smashed and no damage was made to the side windows. Several other cars were parked in the same lot but no damage was made to those cars.
Shen's wife said nothing was stolen or taken from their car. Shen immediately notified University Police and a report was filed for him and the other car owner.
Shen's wife also said the crime must have occurred between 11:30 p.m. and 1:40 a.m. since a witness leaving the lab around 11:30 recalled no damages to the two cars at the time. The police mentioned to her husband that a large hammer was possibly used to smash the windows.
University Police Sergeant Melissa Fielding said the case is still open and she welcomes any additional information.
The total cost of damages to both cars amounted to $1,300. Insurance company policies did not cover their damages.
