Man suffers head laceration in attack on JPA

A 19-year-old male was the victim of an attempted robbery on the 1800s block of Jefferson Park Avenue during the late hours of Thursday, Oct. 26.

The incident occurred between the 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and lasted until shortly after midnight on Friday.

The victim, whose name police would not release, heard footsteps behind him as he was walking.

"He was approached from behind and hit over the head and knocked to the ground," Charlottesville Police Sgt. David Jones said.

Robbery was then attempted, yet according to Jones the suspects "took nothing because he had nothing."

According to the Charlottesville Police, the victim's occupation was listed as unemployed; however, he has not been identified as a University student.

The victim suffered a three-inch laceration on the back of his head and was taken to the University Medical Center. The hospital would not release information to the police regarding whether or not he was admitted, Jones said.

The current condition of the victim has not been released.

The search for the suspects is ongoing. The suspects have been identified as two black males between 20 and 22 years of age. The first is approximately 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 190 pounds. He is believed to have been wearing a red shirt with gold writing, blue jeans and red shoes.

The second suspect is 5 feet 7 inches, weighing 130 pounds. He is believed to have been wearing a white T-shirt, a white jacket, a red hat and brown boots the night of the incident.

If found, the suspects could be charged with malicious wounding, assault and battery.

Pat Lampkin, vice president of student affairs, reminded students to be vigilant about safety, especially at night.

"Continue to be aware of your surroundings and make sure to travel with people," Lampkin said. "When you're walking, know where the blue phones are, take lit pathways, [do not] be afraid to report anything suspicious."

Anyone with information about the incident or suspect can contact the Charlottesville Police at (434)924-7166 or Crime Stoppers at (434)977-4000.
