The University was recently recognized as one of the "best values in public colleges" by Kiplinger's Magazine, at number four on the list. Rankings are based on a combination of a high quality education and low cost.
The Commonwealth is well-represented with five other Virginia schools included in the rankings: the College of William & Mary (3), Virginia Tech (18), the University of Mary Washington (20), James Madison University (21) and George Mason University (78).
Charlottesville Representive Virgil Goode under fire for comments about Quran
Rep. Virgil Goode's, R-Charlottesville, Nov. comments on the swearing in of Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress came under fire. Ellison decided to use the Quran, as opposed to the Bible, for his swearing-in ceremony.
Goode wrote a letter to one of his constituents in which he stated that "if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to the office and demanding the use of the Koran." Goode has maintained strict views on immigration through his public career.
City of Charlottesville ranks in lowest fifteen for unemployment rate in the nation
There is good news for still unemployed fourth years: Charlottesville was recently ranked as a top 15 "great city for job seekers" by CareerBuilder.com. The Web site based the rankings on factors such as low unemployment rates and mean annual wage. Charlottesville ranked eighth with a 2.4 percent unemployment rate and a mean annual wage of $38,490.
