Bomb Threat called in at Duke game

Soon after the Cavaliers defeated the Blue Devils last Thursday, John Paul Jones Arena security requested that spectators evacuate the area due to a bomb threat.

Sgt. Melissa Fielding of the University Police Department said she could not release details concerning the threat at this time.

"All I can do is affirm that there was a bomb threat, no bomb or device was found and that this is an active investigation," she said. "We did respond according to our emergency plans to the JPJ Arena in regard to that particular threat."

Brendan Mahoney, a band member who performed at the game, described his evacuation from JPJ.

"After the game I tried to talk to some of my friends and I was asked to leave because of a serious issue," Mahoney said. "I heard later about a bomb threat. All I knew was that there was a serious issue and I had to leave."
