Correction:

According to the Wednesday, Feb. 21 News article "General Assembly passes grant incentive for eligible VCCS transfers," the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate approved HB 1681, which established the Virginia two-year college transfer grant program. The article mistakenly stated that the bill passed and also incorrectly reported the bill's final wording about monetary awards. A modified version of the bill was unanimously passed by both houses Feb. 24 following a series of compromises, the results of which included alterations to the definition of an eligible student and the level of funding for eligible students. According to the approved version of the bill, qualified first-time students entering a Virginia two-year educational institution in the 2007-08 academic year will be able to receive financial awards beginning in the 2009-10 academic year. The amount of the grant will be set at 1,000 dollars per year, with an additional 1,000 dollars per year awarded to students studying engineering, mathematics, nursing, teaching or science. The Cavalier Daily regrets the error.
