Is it the way I wear my clothes?

SOME BUZZ has been generated in the black student community over the last week concerning the implementation of a new dress code at Jaberwoke. As The Cavalier Daily reported last week, the restaurant and bar banned hats without brims, baggy clothing, sweatpants, plain white T-shirts and camouflage unless worn by a member of the armed forces. When asked about the issue, the following students gave passionate responses, no matter what side of the argument they were on.

Anthony Austin, a fourth-year student in the Education school, believes that the dress code is racist because "it is targeting a group by eliminating certain articles of clothing. I think that [the owner] is disguising the racism by saying that they want to upscale the venue, but you still see other people dressed in flip-flops, ripped jeans, and many other articles of clothing that aren't associated with black people." Stephanie Thornton, a third-year student in the College, agreed, commenting, "The incident reveals exactly how far we've come from Jim Crow laws
