Sullivan to serve as UJC chair

The University Judiciary Committee elected third-year College student Connor Sullivan as chair of its executive board in its elections last night.

Additional members of the executive board include second-year College student Merriam Mikhail as vice chair for first years, second-year Law student Seth Ragosta as vice chair for trials and third-year College student Dean de la Peña as vice chair for sanctions.

"The new Committee is made up of a very talented and dedicated group," outgoing chair Raleigh Anne Blank said. "They certainly have enthusiasm for the Committee and the professionalism it takes to lead an organization such as UJC, which is relied so heavily upon by students, the administration and the Charlottesville community as a whole."

Sullivan noted that professionalism was one of the issues he plans to address in the coming year by implementing the standards of conduct proposed earlier this semester. Sullivan also said visibility is of particular importance to the Committee's future.

"I want to work to increase the Committee's presence around Grounds," Sullivan said. "I think we can do a lot more with the services we offer to keep life safe and fair."

Sullivan served his past term on the Committee as vice chair for first years and said he plans to use the outreach model he used in the first-year community to increase diversity in the Committee as a whole. He emphasized working with other student groups and leaders as a means to achieve this goal.

"I think that the whole student leadership enterprise is going to have an extremely good year," Sullivan said.

Blank said Committee executive board elections this year were among the most efficient in the organization's history, citing the introduction of time limits placed on speeches.

"Everyone was attentive, very engaged and very excited about the opportunity to elect the future leadership," Blank said. "It's an exciting time, it's strange for me, but it's exciting"
