Prof. James Childress receives Jefferson Scholars Faculty Prize

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation recently recognized Religious Studies Prof. James Childress with the Jefferson Scholars Faculty Prize.

The prize is awarded to a faculty member who has served the University in the areas of leadership, scholarship and citizenship, according to Foundation President James Wright. The prize also includes $5,000 to be spent at the recipient's discretion.

"Childress is an exceptional recipient," Wright said. "He has a long and distinguished career in services to the University."

Childress has chaired the religious studies department for more than 10 years, served as the second principal of Brown College and co-directed the Virginia Health Policy Center.

Childress said while he enjoys teaching in and of itself, "it is an honor to have this kind of recognition from the Jefferson Scholars Foundation."
