Man robbed at gunpoint on Emmet Street

A Charlottesville man was robbed at gunpoint at the intersection of Emmet Street and Copeley Road shortly after midnight last Wednesday, University Police Capt. Michael Coleman said.

Coleman said the victim reported being grabbed by his shirt on the way home from work, after which the assailant placed what appeared to be a gun to the man and demanded money. Clothing and a CD player were taken and the thief fled in a silver vehicle with an unknown driver.

Coleman stated that although the area does not have a particularly high rate of crime, the heavy traffic in the area makes such incidents possible. He stressed that "in those kinds of situations it's good to call us as soon as possible," and noted that there are emergency phones on Copeley Road.
