Field Hockey: Cavaliers repeat "Boston Massacre"

The Cavaliers (5-4) looked to avenge a 2006 series against Boston University and Boston College that was so bad, the team dubbed it the "Boston Massacre." Over the weekend, Virginia failed to reverse last year's defeats, falling to Boston 3-0 and Boston College 2-1.

Boston University led 1-0 at halftime despite being outshot and outcornered. Virginia had four saves by freshman Devon Burnley in the second half, but allowed two more goals to Boston senior Hayley Hamada, putting the game out of reach.

Virginia got on the board first against BC, but the Eagles tied the game in the first half and took the lead in the second half. The Cavaliers drew three short corners with less than a minute remaining, including one at the very end of the game, but were unable to score on any of the three.

Men's Soccer: Virginia ties N.C. State 2-2

The No. 3 Cavaliers opened ACC play with a tie against the Wolfpack Saturday. Freshman Chase Neinken and junior Yannick Reyering both scored for Virginia.

N.C. State held a 1-0 lead at halftime, and Virginia's two goals put the Cavs in the lead until the 69th minute, when senior Ernesto Di Laudo scored the tying goal from two assists.

Each team had 16 shots in the game, and N.C. State had an 8-6 corner kick advantage. Virginia returns home Tuesday to host Mount St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
