Act of vandalism committed at Fayerweather Hall

University Police are investigating an act of vandalism committed at Fayerweather Hall Friday morning.

University Police Lieut. Melissa Fielding said a professor's office door was kicked open some time before 8:50 a.m.

"I walked in Friday morning at about 9:30 and someone from the police department was already there," said Art History Prof. Howard Singerman, the occupant of the office. "One of my colleagues had noticed at about 9 and went down to the department secretary, who called the police."

Fielding said the damage is currently estimated at $250.

"Nothing was taken, nothing was touched inside the office as far as I can tell," Singerman said.

He added that Fayerweather Hall is normally locked at night.

"Well, I did feel a little targeted," Singerman said. "I had given my midterm on Thursday, so walking in on Friday I thought someone must be really upset about the midterm, but in fact most people did well."

Lauren Seeliger and Brandon Kile, two third-year Cavalier Daily News writers, discuss the impact of the student housing frenzy on both University students and the Charlottesville community.
