Women's tennis falls to pair of Texas teams

The Virginia women's tennis team suffered two road losses this weekend, falling at No. 4 BaylorFriday night and at No. 15 TCU Sunday afternoon, both by the score of 6-1.

In both matches, the Cavaliers (6-7, 2-1 ACC) recorded both a lone singles and doubles win. The one highlight of the weekend for Virginia came Friday against Baylor (16-1, 2-0 Big 12) when sophomore Jennifer Stevens upset No. 19-ranked freshman Taylor Ormond at No. 2 singles. Stevens also won her doubles match along with her partner, junior Hampton Williams at No. 3 doubles.

Not much else went right for the Cavaliers, as juniors Amanda Rales and Lara Alexander fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, and senior Lindsey Pereira and junior Maggie Yahner were defeated 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. The Cavaliers continued their struggles Sunday at TCU (9-4), as Stevens recorded Virginia's lone singles victory a second time, defeating TCU junior Macall Harkins in straight sets. In doubles, the Cavaliers prevailed at the No. 2 court, as Pereira and Yahner defeated sophomore Nina Munch-Soegaard and freshman Katariina Tuohimaa, 8-5. Virginia, however, suffered losses at the No. 1 and No. 3 court. Rales and Alexander were downed by the No. 14-ranked doubles team in the country of Harkins and junior Anna Sydorska. The Cavaliers return home this weekend to play host to ACC opponents Miami and Florida State.
