Love Connection

Will a mutual aspiration to serve in the Peace Corps post-graduation overcome a late start to this date?

What extracurriculars do you participate in?
Marching band, and I started the whole volunteering thing, which I believe is quite rewarding.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Well other than chillin’ with the homeboys/girls, I LOVE to listen to music. I could spend all day listening to jams. I also really like to songwrite and I am learning how to produce right now, so I have my hands full even in my free time!

What are the physical and personality attributes you are looking for in a date?
Well as long as she is cute, and clicks with my personality, shes game! I can’t say I have a concrete set of personality attributes that MUST be in a girl because different personalities click with mine. I also tend to like the slender girl, but hey, that’s just me.

What are your religious affiliations?
Catholic, although I can’t say I am the best at keeping up with my faith. Although I am kinda drifting away from my religion more so now, I can say that the bible has some really good life lessons and morals that are timeless.

What are your favorite movies?
Movies... hmm not really a movie guy, but the ones I liked recently were American History X, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Into the Wild. Also I recently saw Mean Girls, and I have to say, I am glad I gave it a chance. It is LEGIT.

What music do you like (genres and bands)?
I love everything. I love good music, I love bad music. Its entertaining to listen to bad music, because then you are constantly thinking about everything that’s wrong with it, and I love good music, because it inspires me to write my own music.

What’s your favorite food?
Like anything in a sandwich form.

What are your favorite books and authors?
Haha favorite books. Good one.

Describe your ideal date (not person but outing)?
Anything where I am doing something active. Not a fan of sitting down for an eating date. Favorite destinations of mine are like bowling, putt putt, or hell, even Chuckie Cheese.  Even if the date doesn’t go so well, I go home with a ballin’ hat that I bought with my tickets, and lots of tokens.

Do you smoke?
I wouldn’t identify myself as a smoker, but I do smoke very occasionally. Because really, there is nothing like sitting out on the steps of Lambeth Field, and enjoying the smooth, rich texture of a cigar. Just thinking about life after a night of partying, or just after a tough week of classes.

What do you want to do when you graduate?
I plan on going to the Peace Corps to some random Latin American country, and throwin it down for 2 years. Then when I come back and have a job, pursue a career in music, and ultimately, getting signed to a major record label.

If you were a member of the circus, who would you be and why?
The bear. I like to take naps.

What extracurriculars do you participate in?
Intramural soccer, basketball;  Outdoors Club

What do you like to do in your free time?
Gym, Intramurals, Outdoors Club, debauchery, laughing, reading, watching the clouds

What are the physical and personality attributes you are looking for in a date?
Gentlemanly, hilarious, not harmful to the eyes

What are your religious affiliations?
Roman Catholic

What are your favorite movies?
Superstar, Peter Pan (Disney), The Green Mile, Pay It Forward

What music do you like (genres and bands)?
Pink Floyd, Richie Spice, The White Stripes, Sublime, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Heart, Guns N’ Roses, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, Judas Priest, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Sam Cooke

What’s your favorite food?
Anything greasy and delicious but not too spicy

What are your favorite books/authors?
Ronald Dahl, The Doors of Perception, Of Mice and Men, Dr. Faustus, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Catcher in the Rye, The Giver, Anthem

Describe your ideal date (not person but outing)?
HOT, but not too preppy, hilarious, good listener

Do you smoke?
No

What do you want to do when you graduate?
Peace corps then FBI/CIA

If you were a member of the circus, who would you be and why?
The lady that rides on top the elephants.

Molly: I walked to the restaurant with my friend Jessica because she was going on a date at the Corner too. She asked me if I was nervous and I said I felt pretty neutral, not nervous or anything...Just like I was meeting an old friend or something. I trusted that I was set up well.

Roberto: I wasn’t really nervous. I guess I was really excited to meet somebody new. And I was all for that free meal too.

Molly: I wanted to be a couple minutes late so maybe he would already be there but that didn’t happen. I first met him outside, fifteen minutes after the date was supposed to start.

Roberto: I was waiting outside and I was just wondering where she was but she was inside. I was thinking “Where was this girl?” I had no idea where she was and usually my rule is that I wait maybe 20 minutes before I roll out for like a flake. So I wasn’t sure if she was there or not, but apparently she was inside.

Molly: He was just chilling up against a post or something, waiting patiently. He was wearing a striped polo and I liked his watch because the color matched the polo guy on his shirt. I noticed his dark shaved hair and his dark eyes. He seemed really relaxed ... He reminded me of a really close friend I had in high school.

Roberto: She seemed like a pretty cool person. She kind of reminded me of somebody I knew in band so I thought that was funny. She was wearing a green vest thing. I only remember because she pointed it out to me.

Molly: We just went inside and he was impressed that I had ordered him water. But really I had just ordered myself water and the waiter brought out two. We talked forever and neither of us looked at the menu that much. He had never been there before so he didn’t know what to order.

Roberto: We actually ended up talking and the waiter came and asked if we wanted to order and I was like “Um, yeah we’re here to eat”. It took us a while to get the food. I got the mac and cheese. I think she got the hamburger. I’m not sure though. The mac and cheese was really good. She actually recommended it to me and it was really good. It was so good. So good. We ordered dessert too, some chocolate cake. It was brutal. In a good way.

Molly: I told the waitress to order whatever kind of cheeseburger she felt like writing down. Since he had never been there before, I recommended the macaroni and cheese but he ended up ordering it as a meal. I was really nervous because in case he didn’t like it he would have to eat it as his entire meal. Sometimes it gets a little dry at the Virginian. Hopefully the Virginian will read that.

Roberto: We just started talking about where we were from and majors and stuff like that. I don’t remember all the weird stuff we talked about, but we talked about some cool stuff. I guess we had a couple of things in common. She wanted to do Peace Corps, so I guess that matched up with me. We were actually talking about this, too. There’s only so much you can do when matching up people with their profiles. Just because two people like Coldplay doesn’t mean they’re the perfect match. I wanted to see how interesting it would be to see if we’d be a match or not.

Molly: The conversation was good. We talked the whole time. We just talked about anything and everything. The usual small talk, like living situations this year and next year, majors, life. I feel like I’m the kind of person who will bring up random things and he seemed to not really care that they were that random. He was a good conversation keeper. We had a lot in common: Peace Corps, music. And I think one big thing was that even though we had our differences about some things, he seemed very open to other people’s opinions and it seemed like he could easily understand different people’s perspectives on different subjects. There were only maybe three silences and it was probably because I was trying to chew my massive cheeseburger.

Roberto: It was different because I’ve never been on a blind date before. It was literally walking in blind. I’d say it was an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lives, getting set up blindly. There wasn’t really a dull moment. I had fun. She was cool. There wasn’t anything awkward about it.

Molly: He paid, took the bill. Actually he went to the bathroom and when he came back it was in front of his seat. So he took it and paid for it, which I thought was sweet and didn’t ask any questions like for me to pitch in or anything, which is what I was hoping. So he was really sweet to pay the bill. It went over the $30 Cavalier Daily limit. I noticed the time was getting kind of late and he had to be at his friend’s apartment soon. He was going out that night so I assumed he wanted to get going. It was around 9:30 or something. I felt like we could’ve stayed there another hour because we had a lot to talk about.

Roberto: We ended up exchanging numbers. I was going to a party afterwards. We kind of parted ways after The Virginian. I walked to my friend’s dorm afterwards and she walked back to Lambeth. We left around 9:45.

Molly: I had fun, it was very draining, though. But not in a bad way. You had to smile and talk the whole time. My cheek muscles were getting tired. I would rank it an 8.5. I’m really biased but I usually don’t like boys that I date to be younger than me. His birthday is September 18th, 1989. So he’s younger than me, but I feel like we’re both not too uptight. We both had a lot in common and he was really sweet. A lot of the things he had to say and his actions were sweet.

Roberto: I couldn’t really rank it through a number. It wasn’t that objective, just because it was so different. Giving it a number would just be like, I don’t know. I’d say it was good. I’d just give it an 8. Just give it an 8.

Though they haven’t become Facebook friends yet, Roberto and Molly have texted a few times to say that they hope their paths will cross in the future. They plan to get together to hang out sometime soon.
