Giving back

As Class Giving Co-Chairs, we wanted to clarify what class giving is really about. The Class of 2009 Giving Campaign is about neither money nor competition with similar academic institutions. In truth, giving is about giving back. As chairs of the Class Giving campaign and — more importantly — as members of the Class of 2009, we know that whether on the playing field, in the stacks, or at a CIO-sponsored event, this University has granted all of us a great deal more than our diplomas.

In giving a gift back to our home institution, students can thank the program, department, or student group that has most shaped their four years at Mr. Jefferson’s University and, as such, ensure the continued successful operation of that recipient for future student generations.

Each Trustee is charged individually with spreading the word about this campaign, whether through e-mail campaigns or face-to-face via presentations to classes, CIO’s, and friends and colleagues. Thanks to the hard work of all fifty-eight Trustees, our current participation rate of 36 percent is in keeping with our projected trajectory to achieve our 66 percent goal. Yet it is important to note that the campaign is less about securing money and more about coming together as a class to show our appreciation for this University.  Uniting the class to give a gift will be our last communal act as undergraduates of the Class of 2009. Beginning a tradition of giving to the University will bind us together as we leave the confines of the Academical Village and proudly carry our alumni status into the world that awaits us.
