Class is back in full swing and we at tableau know you are already overrun with algorithms, James Joyce or astrophysics. But give yourself a break! Neglecting RSS feeds or Facebook or Pitchfork or tableau is no way to make your semester successful. Here at The Cavalier Daily, we live by the 30 percent rule: No matter how busy you are, you can always dedicate 30 percent of your energy to the pursuit of pleasure.

We know that the world of arts and entertainment can sometimes be a sticky one. You surf the Web and get annoyed with all the dumb "sophomore slump" music articles; you pick up "US Weekly" and are flustered to find excessive coverage of Nicole Richie's latest baby (a healthy boy, named - get this, Sparrow James Midnight Madden); you skim through the latest issue of "Vanity Fair" and finally feel fed up with all the political mumbo jumbo housed between pages of ads.

What's a savvy A&E fanatic to do? Live by the 30 percent rule! Give those seemingly-annoying articles or ledes or blogs a chance. Expand your horizons, just a little bit, and just maybe you'll be blown away by how satisfied your A&E taste buds are.

This week - and every week - at tableau, we filter out only the most fascinating (or eccentric) content to tickle your fancy. Not interested in Quentin Tarantino's latest flick, Inglourious Basterds? Take a chance and skim over Robert Molster's review - you just might be excited by what you read! Not sure if our Under the Radar band, My Favorite Highway, is up your alley? Stretch yourself 30 percent further, and we guarantee you won't regret it. Think MTV's VMA awards have become so lame? Check out our wish list for the makings of an awesome show - and maybe 30 percent of you will actually tune in.

30 percent, or roughly 1/3 for you math majors, is always a good number to keep in your mind. If you're gorging on that chocolate cake your roommate baked, maybe just chow down on 30 percent of it; if you're struggling to stay motivated on the treadmill, just lower your effort by 30 percent and those last five minutes will go so much smoother; if you're pressed for time and wondering what to read Thursdays in The Cavalier Daily, make sure you keep returning to section B (right behind Sports) every week and try your chance with tableau - we promise you'll find something you like.
