Field hockey tops Deacons in top-10 bout

Sophomore midfielder Michelle Vittese scored a goal in Virginia

The No. 3 Virginia field hockey team defeated No. 6 Wake Forest 2-0 Saturday. The win for the Cavaliers (15-2, 2-2 ACC) was their second of the season against the Demon Deacons (10-5, 1-3 ACC) and their fourth against a top-10 opponent. Sophomore midfielders Paige Selenski and Michelle Vittese both scored goals in the winning effort. Selenski's 21 goals this season surpass her total from last year and are good to tie for second in the ACC.

In their previous matchup against the Demon Deacons, the Cavaliers prevailed at home in overtime, 3-2. Virginia will close out its schedule against Radford and Duke this week before hosting the ACC Tournament Nov. 5 to 8.
