Cavs topple St. Mary

\nThe Virginia women's basketball team opened the season with two wins this weekend, including an 81-58 romp of Mount St. Mary's in Sunday's home-opener.

The Cavaliers (2-0) began the season on the road with an 82-66 victory against Hofstra. Virginia only led by two points at halftime but outscored Hofstra 50-36 during the second half to secure the win. Four different Cavaliers finished in double figures, led by junior guard Whitny Edwards with 16 points. Sophomore center Simone Egwu and freshman guard Kelsey Wolfe each posted double-doubles, while freshman forward Jazmin Pitts grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

Virginia then cruised past Mount St. Mary's Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena with a 33-point victory. Junior forward Chelsea Shine led the way with 17 points and 15 rebounds as four other Cavaliers scored in double figures. The Cavaliers held a 37-17 halftime lead after scoring 13 unanswered points between the 13:19 and 7:46 marks.

The Cavaliers continue play at No. 4 Tennessee Thursday at 7 p.m.
