Irma: The first thing I did when I found out I was going to be on Love Connection was to tell my sister and all of my friends. They were all really, really excited for me, but when we were hanging out, they kept questioning me about him. Like, "What if he's really ugly? What if he's really short? What if it's really awkward?" So ... I had been excited, but I got kind of nervous - really nervous.

Cody: Doing Love Connection was kind of a last-minute thing, so I didn't really have a chance to talk to too many people about it. All of my best friends knew that I was going on the date, and they figured it would be a good way to spend the afternoon. I wasn't really nervous, more just chill and excited about what was going to happen. I didn't have her phone number or anything, so I was hoping that first off I'd be able to find her.

Irma: We decided to eat at Take-it-Away on the corner as a Valentine's Day lunch. I was thinking, "Oh man, this is Valentine's Day; this might get awkward because there are certain expectations on a day like this." So I wasn't as excited about having a valentine as I was worried about it being weird.

Cody: I think it was cool that I had a little bit of a date on Valentine's Day. I guess it is a little awkward to be with a stranger on such a romantic day, but I saw it as a good thing mainly.

Irma: I got to Take-it-Away like a minute or two after he did, because he was just standing outside, and I noticed him from afar. He looked a little awkward just because of the whole set-up and since he was there first, but he was really cute, I must admit. I went up to him, and I was like, "Hey, are you Cody?" and he was like, "Hey, are you Irma? Let's go inside." So we jumped right into it from there. It wasn't really awkward once we got the initial meeting out of the way.

Cody: There was this girl walking down the street and she kind of just came right up to me; I guess she saw that I was waiting. So, I introduced myself and she was pretty cool right away, and she was definitely cute, so I was happy. She made a good first impression. [Inside Take It Away] it was really crowded and busy of course, so that was just awkward in general.

Irma: He asked me a lot of questions to try to get to know me. We found out we had the same musical inclination. Then we talked mostly about school, and I think we talked about music for a bit more. We both like SOJA, which is like reggae dance, so that was a good connection. I also found out he was a math minor, and I think he said he was considering a major in it too. I thought that was actually really cool since I like math and am actually a math major. You know, the fact that we were on a blind date on Valentine's day was uncomfortable, but I mean for what the conversation was it flowed pretty smoothly.

Cody: One thing that I thought was pretty funny was that she was from somewhere in South America - Guatemala, I think it was - and I've dated a few girls from there, so she is maybe my type. Her being from Guatemala I kind of laughed at, just because of my history with those girls, but I didn't mention that to her. I laughed inside. [Apart from] that, it was me asking questions and her asking a few. It was pretty generic conversation stuff: What's your major? What kind of music do you like? It was fine, though - I found out she likes hip hop, and I'm a big hip hop fan, so we talked about that for awhile.

Irma: When we were eating there were some awkward moments just staring off or looking around or something. I don't know about romantic things, but I would love to get to know him better as a friend. If he asked me to dinner, I'd say yeah.

Cody: We were only there for like 30 to 45 minutes since it was just lunch, but when we talked I could tell she was a cool girl. There's definitely potential if we hung out more. If I saw her out or something, I'm sure we'd talk.

Irma: At the end of the date, we found out we both live on the same street and were headed home, so he walked me to my apartment. He asked me for my number and I gave it to him. We hugged and it wasn't awkward at all since he leaned into it; it was just natural.

Cody: I had never been on a blind date before, but it was a good impression for the first blind date. Nothing really jumped out at me; it wasn't awesome, but it was fine. Now we don't have a correspondence going, but you never know what can happen. I meant to text her this week, but it kind of never happened.

Irma: It was a decent date, and that's basically all I can say. If I saw him on Grounds I would probably wave hi or something. I wouldn't want to stop and talk to him, though.

Cody: I'll give the date a six. It was fun, but definitely not romantic. I guess you really don't expect a lunch date to be anything really special like that, but this was one still above average.

Irma: I'd rank the date a six because it wasn't the best date I've been on, but he was still a really nice guy.

Cupid must have been busy on Valentine's Day, because his arrows of love surely did not strike Irma and Cody. At least, on the bright side, Frank Sinatra's "My Funny Valentine" lyrics - "your looks are laughable / unphotographable" - did not ring true.
