Virginia women’s lacrosse coach Julie Myers announced Wednesday seven top high school recruits have indicated they plan to play for Virginia.
Four of the recruits already boast extensive experience as teammates. Defender Maggie Preas and midfielder Posey Valis currently compete together at McDonogh School in Maryland, the top-ranked team on the 2012 MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Girls Lacrosse preseason rankings. Attacker Besser Dyson and defender Wyatt Whitley play for St. Stephens & St. Agnes, which ranks second on the list.
Beyond playing together, both pairs already understand how to win together. Preas and Valis helped McDonogh advance to three Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championships, while Dyson and Whitley captured the past two Independent School League titles.
Whitley received recognition last season as a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and a First-Team All-State selection in Virginia. Attacker Kelly Reese, a Washington, D.C. recruit, likewise earned All-America honors, snagging a spot on Under Armour Underclassman’s 2011 and 2012 All-American teams.
Two New York natives, Brittany Brown and Sarah Crowley, round out the recruiting class. Crowley gained attention as a standout midfielder from Long Island, and Brown became a 2012 U.S. Lacrosse All-American as a goalkeeper for the Berkshire School in the Bronx.
The seven recruits can compete at Virginia beginning in the 2013-14 season.
