What: Princeton Chase
Where: Princeton, N.J.
When: Sunday, 9 a.m.
After opening its fall season at the Head of the Charles, the Virginia rowing team now travels to Princeton, N.J., to compete in the Princeton Chase.
The Cavaliers are coming off a successful performance at the Head of the Charles — the world’s largest regatta — with their Varsity Eight recording a sixth place overall finish, and a fourth place finish in comparison to collegiate competition. Virginia’s V8 crossed the finish line with a time of 17 minutes, only placing behind collegiate competitors Yale, Brown and Michigan.
Virginia’s second Varsity Eight also had a strong performance and picked up a 14th place overall finish.
Virginia will once again face tough competition on Sunday, with both Yale and Brown in the lineup for the Princeton Chase.
After this week, the Cavaliers will finish out the fall season Nov. 13, at the Rivanna Romp in Earlysville, Va.

Women’s Golf
What: The Landfall Tradition
Where: Wilmington, N.C.
When: Oct. 28-30
The Virginia women’s golf team will compete in The Landfall Tradition this weekend in Wilmington, N.C.
The tournament will be the team’s final competition of the fall season and will feature some of the top talent in NCAA division one women’s golf.
Entered into the 18-team tournament are Alabama and Furman, who are nationally ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on Golfstat.com. Also included in the tournament’s playing field is Wake Forest, a team led by the country’s third-ranked individual player in sophomore Jennifer Kupcho.
Last year, the Cavaliers finished in 12th place at The Landfall Tradition. They were led in that tournament by Virginia alumna Lauren Coughlin, who came in 8th place overall out of 96 golfers.
The player to watch for on Virginia this year is sophomore Anna Redding. Redding has been the Cavaliers’ strongest player to date this season, averaging a team best 72.11 stroke average per round.
Virginia will look to close out the fall season on a high note in what should be a nice weekend for golf, as weather forecasts in Wilmington are projected to be mostly sunny with low wind and a Sunday high of 81.

Cross Country
What: ACC Championships
Where: Cary, N.C.
When: Friday
The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will race at the ACC Championships Friday in Cary, N.C.
Two weeks ago, the No. 16 Virginia men’s team came in third at the Penn State Open. Three Cavalier runners placed within the top ten. Sophomore Brent Demarest led the way with a time of 25:07 over 5.2 miles, finishing sixth overall. Freshman Lachlan Cook followed in seventh, and senior Zach Herriott took ninth.
The Virginia men’s toughest competitor Friday will be defending ACC and NCAA champion Syracuse, who is currently ranked No. 6. The Cavaliers must also hold off No. 26 Virginia Tech.
The Virginia women’s cross country team looks to bounce back after struggling at the Pre-National Invitational two weeks ago. Led by sophomore Emily Mulhern, who finished 69th overall with a 6-kilometer time of 21:09.6, the Cavaliers settled for an 18th place finish.
The defending ACC champions have since lost their then-No. 22 ranking and go into the Friday’s race nationally unranked.
Another ACC Championship title will be a difficult feat for the Virginia women’s team, who placed five scoring runners in the top 22 at last year’s ACC Championship. This year, the Cavaliers must face No. 3 NC State and No. 19 Notre Dame, in addition to a strong Syracuse team.
The women’s 6k is set to start at 10 a.m., and the men’s 8k begins at 10:45 a.m.

Volleyball
What: Virginia vs. Georgia Tech
Where: Atlanta, Ga.
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Virginia women’s volleyball team faces conference foe Georgia Tech this Friday at 7 p.m.
The Cavaliers (4-18, 1-9 ACC) try to end their four-game losing streak against the Yellow Jackets (18-5, 9-2 ACC).
The Cavaliers will try to get revenge on Georgia Tech after their loss earlier this month at home in Charlottesville. Virginia has struggled to get off to a good start in their matches, having been swept in their last two matches and only winning six total games in their last eight matches.
Georgia Tech has found success this year in conference play, and they are currently on an eight-match winning streak. They have only gone to five sets in one of those matches, showing consistency and poise.
It will be important for Virginia to play aggressive and come ready to play against a hot Yellow Jackets team with a lot of momentum.
