Cayden Dalton, a former third-year College student, was arrested Aug. 26 and charged with misdemeanor assault, felony strangulation and felony abduction.

Former third-year College student Cayden Jacob Dalton waived his right to a preliminary hearing for his two felony charges of strangulation and abduction Thursday at the General District Court in downtown Charlottesville.

Dalton was arrested the morning after the Wertland Street Block Party on Aug. 26 and charged with misdemeanor assault, felony strangulation and felony abduction.

Dalton will reappear in front of the court for docket call Oct. 16, during which the dates of the trial proceedings will be scheduled.

Dalton was represented by Rhonda Quagliana, an attorney with St. John, Bowling, Lawrence & Quagliana, LLP. Presiding Judge Robert H. Downer Jr. oversaw the hearing.

Following his arrest, Dalton was placed in custody at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, and he will remain there until his trial. The victim reported to University Police that Dalton had assaulted and prevented them from leaving the scene. Charlottesville Police confirmed the incident took place on the 1200 block of Wertland Street.

Dalton has had two other hearings following the incident, and was denied bail both times. A no-contact protective order has also been filed by the victim, prohibiting Dalton from having any physical or verbal contact with them.

According to The Daily Progress, Dalton is no longer enrolled at the University.
