After securing a victory in their first home game of the year against VMI earlier this week, the Cavaliers welcomed Dartmouth to Disharoon Park for the beginning of a three-game series Friday afternoon. Virginia (5-3, 0-0 ACC) have stuck to a rotation that has worked to varying degrees so far this season, again opting for senior right-handed pitcher Jay Woolfolk to take the mound in Friday’s matchup against the Big Green (0-3, 0-0 Ivy League). This time, the senior was utterly dominant in an 11-3 win.

After a two-week break, No. 5 Virginia entered its conference opener against No. 15 Duke Friday ready to continue its yearslong regular-season domination of the ACC. The program had won 50 consecutive regular-season conference dual matches, with its most recent loss coming in January 2020.

With the 97th Academy Awards set to air on March 2 at 7 p.m. on ABC, the 2025 awards season is coming to a close, and what a season it has been. Any buildup to the Oscars is rife with controversy and debate, but this year’s race in particular has grown tenser and more contentious with each passing awards show, as new scandals arise with the ability to impact or even flip on their head the major races, namely Best Picture, among many of the acting categories as well.

Fresh off a celebratory senior night at John Paul Jones Arena, Virginia played spoiler in Southern Methodist’s final home game Thursday. In contrast to Sunday’s contest, though, it appeared the Cavaliers (15-14, 7-10 ACC) would have to find a way to win without the offensive production of star sophomore guard Kymora Johnson.

John Paul Jones Arena will host a regional of The Basketball Tournament this summer, the tournament announced in a press release Thursday, and it will include an alumni team called Embrace The Pace, headlined by former men’s basketball stars Kyle Guy and Kihei Clark.

As part of the College’s Enabling Difficult Conversations series, the University screened the documentary “The Path Forward” Wednesday in Nau Hall. This documentary is directed by Julie Cohen, Jewish American filmmaker and Academy Award-nominated director, and Palestinian American filmmaker Mo Husseini. The screening was followed by a moderated discussion with the filmmakers and Christa Davis Acampora, dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and concluded with a catered reception for attendees.

An attacker was apprehended by local police as of 5:45 p.m. according to an emergency alert sent out by the University. The shelter in place has been lifted but a police presence will remain in the area.

As the spring equinox approaches, most winter sports programs are in the final stages of their respective seasons. The 2024-25 season has been a mixed bag, with the high of an ACC Championship in the pool and the low of disappointing defeats on the hardwood. While winter still continues its waning hours, a few sports writers share some final thoughts.

McRae’s sound is undeniably and addictively pure pop, bringing back 2000’s era sounds. The sleek, synth-pop sound combined with her hallmark percussive beats make for distinctively danceable songs, making for an album that is both fun to listen and move to.

Virginia Coach Lars Tiffany’s teams play a certain way. Run and gun. Blister out in transition. They might commit some turnovers, might throw away some passes, but it is going to work in the end, because they are simply going to overwhelm you with firepower.

Virginia women’s lacrosse dropped their second in as many games, albeit both against ranked opponents. Wednesday’s affair against Navy was initially in the Cavaliers’ favor, but a lackluster second half sunk the ship for Virginia (2-2, 0-1 ACC) in a 12-14 defeat to the Midshipmen (4-1, 0-0 AAC).
