As students prepare for a nine-day final exam period, administrators, alumni and student-run organizations are equipped to support them. In the coming days, many resources will be available to students to help them recharge their batteries and bring their A-game to exams. From providing stress-reducing activities to supplementing meals, the collective effort amongst organizations in and around the University underscores the importance of supporting students during this critical period.

As a demographic group, international students constitute about 5 percent of each admitted class at the University, but the variety of their individual contributions to the student body cannot be summed up in a statistic. International students hail from all over the world and face unique challenges, from securing visas to learning on which side of a car the driver sits. Far from homogeneous, their voices highlight how no single set of experiences defines what it means to be an international student on Grounds.

While most University students sought familiar comforts over winter break, returning to their beds, pets and home-cooked meals, two students explored new terrain by climbing the tallest free-standing mountain in the world — Mount Kilimanjaro.

Grappling with disabilities and chronic illnesses can pose a huge challenge to navigating college. While items like wheelchairs or walking canes may visually signify disabilities, many University students face challenges invisible to the naked eye as they look for necessary support from their peers and professors that they might need to succeed on Grounds.

After working tirelessly to obtain admission at one of the nation’s top universities, undergoing the tumultuous process of registering for classes, finding a roommate and adjusting to their first year away from home, many University students do not have time to take a breath before they have their next mountain to scale — looking for off-Grounds housing.
