Local radio station WTJU 91.1 FM sponsored a "Welcome Back" concert in the Amphitheater last Friday, featuring bands Andrew Cedermark & Buffalo Wildwing, The Invisible Hand and Caninos. The three groups have played together in the past - some may remember The Invisible Hand playing with Caninos at the Sigma Phi Society fraternity house several months ago - but this concert was the first time they had all been on stage together.

In one of the first few scenes of Eat Pray Love, main character Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) attends the production of a play she has authored. The production is a disaster, and there are numerous sour comments and walkouts. Gilbert, however, is blinded by the charm of the lead actor, David Piccolo (James Franco), and she brushes the failure off with an "I'm not everyone's cup of tea" comment. Most ABC television shows, especially the comedies, are hit or miss. Series like ABC's recent creation Modern Family have gumption that viewers fall in love with; the characters are original and flawed to the necessary comic extent, and the circumstances parody reality. Then there are the failures. The station's attempt to create the series Cavemen in 2007, based off of the Geico commercials, was a catastrophe. The show was canceled within a month. When ABC added Scrubs to its weekly repertoire, the show's ratings took a nosedive, and it, too, has now been canceled.

We all have had moments when we seriously question the food on our plates. Whether dealing with gooey turkey cutlets covered in gelatinous gravy or steaks that strongly resemble rubber tires, we always react the same. Our mouths curl into a slight sneer, and we crane our heads around the plate to view the entr

It is fitting that one of the more humorous Facebook relationship statuses also titles a film that was nominated for the 2010 Golden Globe Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical award. It's Complicated - the movie, not the status - probes into the messy subject of divorce with surprising flair, with both a strong cast and dialogue fueling its comic drive.

My night started out blandly with dinner at the Observatory Hill Dining Hall, but the Flavors of Dance event soon gave my taste buds a much-needed kick in the mouth. The Latino Student Alliance hosted a cultural show last Friday as part of its contribution to Hispanic Heritage Month.

When college students hear the term "bureaucracy," they usually react in one of two ways. Students either launch into a heated and fervent debate or cringe at the word and often try to distance themselves from the conversation as much as possible. I confess that I am in that second group; after the past year in the United States, further debate about our country's economic practices does nothing but run up my bill for aspirin. So when I heard that the Alumni Association would host a screening Sept. 25 of Proactive Pictures' film, Bureaucracy, my first instinct was to stay far away.
