The Virginia men’s golf team tied for eighth place at the ACC Tournament, hosted this past weekend at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers struggled to keep pace with some of the top programs in the nation over the course of the weekend, suffering final round setbacks to post a team total of 6-over 870.

The state of Virginia was granted the ability to perform tests on blood samples for the Zika virus yesterday, following an announcement that the commonwealth’s Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services received permission to commence tests on suspected blood samples by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this month.

When it comes to ACC women’s golf, it’s all about the Cavaliers. The Virginia women’s golf team defended its title at the ACC Tournament this past weekend in Greensboro, N.C., grabbing first place for the second consecutive year. In addition to the team’s first, senior Lauren Coughlin was crowned individual champion of the field of 60 in the 54-hole tournament.

Virginia junior golfer Derek Bard missed the cut at the Masters after shooting a 5-over 77 in Friday’s second round. With his first round score of 4-over 76, Bard finished the two rounds at 9-over par — three shots behind the cut, which was 6-over.

Virginia golfer Derek Bard is tied for No. 59 after shooting a 4-over 76 in the first round of the Masters Thursday. Bard — a junior Foreign Affairs major — qualified for the tournament after finishing second at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship, and is the first Virginia golfer to take part in the event since Steve Marino did so in 2011.

No. 21 Virginia men’s golf placed fourth at the Linger Longer Invitational hosted in Greensboro, Ga., which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon. The fourth-place finish at the 13-team tournament allowed for Virginia to maintain its streak of consecutive top-five finishes to four, including every tournament of the spring season.

The Virginia General Assembly passed legislation Monday which greatly expands the amount of concealed carry permits allowed in the state. The legislation — widely expected to pass after the announcement of a plan negotiated between the governor’s office, gun rights activists and lobbyists from the National Rifle Association — also bars people subjected to a protective order from legally carrying a weapon.
