On Nov. 14, Forbes released its reputed “30 Under 30” list for 2018, recognizing a group of young entrepreneurs excelling in various projects and ventures. This year, five University alumni made the lists, including Muzzammil Zaveri, Sam Bernstein, Chelsea Follett, Jeremy Martin and Kevin Eisenfrats.

At a recent general body meeting, Girl Up members presented on the importance of spelling bees, in particular the value to girls education. This exercise allowed the students to get in the right mindset for their own spelling bee April 11.

Hiring teaching assistants is a way for the University to save money, give academic opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students wishing to obtain teaching experience and provide students individualized help in their classes. For many graduate students, funding and financial aid is contingent on being a teaching assistant as they work towards their degree.

Refugee Outreach held a concert March 17 to benefit Watanili and Support to Life, two organizations working with Syrian refugees in Turkey to prevent gaps in education and to help them begin reassembling their lives. The night was filled with videos, speeches and performances from a cappella groups and individual student musicians.

Over the span of two weeks, the University and Charlottesville community are celebrating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The celebration, which includes 20 free public events across the University and Charlottesville, began on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will conclude Jan. 30.

On Tuesday, citizens will make their way to the polls to decide who will be at the helm of one of the most influential countries on the globe. To many, this election cycle may feel like a choice between the lesser of two evils, but the impact of this decision spreads far beyond those who have a vote in the election.

Each year, students both past and present join together to celebrate the University during Homecomings. This year’s events kicked off on Monday, Oct. 10 with the First-year Kick-off and will wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 15 with the Homecomings football game against Pittsburgh.

The Charlottesville Vegetarian Festival celebrated its 20th anniversary this past Saturday at IX Art Park. The free event, which was held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., hosted more than 60 vendors and exhibitors.
