A day after defeating Delaware 4-3 in an overtime battle, the Virginia field hockey team fell 2-1 to Duke at University Hall Turf Field. The Cavaliers gave up two first half goals and were unable to claw back into the game, seeing a fantastic 15-win season come to an end.

The fourth-seeded Virginia field hockey team fell in overtime to No. 1 seed Syracuse (17-1, 6-0 ACC) Friday. The Cavaliers (14-5, 3-3 ACC) mounted an improbable comeback in the closing minutes of the game to send the game to overtime, but Syracuse junior forward Emma Russell buried a shot six minutes into the period to send the Orange to the ACC Championship.

The seventh-ranked Virginia field hockey team (13-4, 3-3 ACC) closed out regular season play with a win at in-state rival James Madison. Despite outshooting the Cavaliers 19-13, the No. 17 Dukes (12-5, 5-0 CAA) were unable to find the back of the net.

The No. 5 Virginia field hockey team defeated another top-20 team this weekend when it edged No. 15 Delaware 3-2 in overtime. The Cavaliers (12-3, 3-2 ACC) outshot the Blue Hens, 16-10, but Delaware (11-4, 2-1 CAA) sophomore goalie Emmeline Oltmans’ seven saves were enough to force overtime.

For the second time in many years, both the men’s and women’s Virginia cross country teams took home team titles at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. Additionally, graduate student Iona Lake defended Sarah Falker’s title from 2014, winning the women’s Division I 5K.

The sixth-ranked Virginia field hockey team disposed of its third ranked opponent of the season and took care of business against unranked Miami, Ohio to improve to 6-0. The Cavaliers traveled to No. 11 Louisville Friday and came out victorious by a score of 4-3, then edged the RedHawks, 1-0, Sunday.

The No. 9 Virginia field hockey team successfully navigated its first road trip of the 2015 season, dispatching Rutgers 5-4 in the Cavaliers first ever trip to Piscataway, N.J. Friday. The team then traveled to Princeton to take on the 15th-ranked Tigers and came out with its second top-25 win of the season with a 4-3 overtime victory.
