Gov. Bob McDonnell’s policy of automatic rights restoration for non-violent felons, which was established July 15, has already restored the civil rights of 1,566 Virginians, according to a statement released by his office last Thursday. Since McDonnell entered office in 2010, he has restored the civil rights of more than 6,800 state residents.

Nearly 600 first-year students moved into the new Lile-Maupin, Tuttle-Dunnington, and Shannon dorms on Alderman Road last weekend. A combined $69.8 million went into the construction of the new five-story buildings as part of the ongoing Alderman Road construction project.

Engineering Student Council received a $50,000 grant from the University of Virginia Alumni Association’s Jefferson Trust last week to help renovate the Thornton Stacks. The renovations, spearheaded by Engineering Council President Victoria Guarino, a fourth-year Engineering student, will begin this summer. They are intended to make the Thornton Stacks a more comfortable place for students to study and collaborate.

In an effort to raise awareness about University policies for taking sexual offense charges to trial, the Sexual Misconduct Board presented a mock trial Tuesday. The trial was part of a weeklong sexual assault advocacy program, Take Back the Night, which began Monday.
