Thanks to a multi-million dollar private donation, the University currently is in the early stages of forming a marching and concert band. With the formation of the new band the athletic department has decided not to allow the Virginia Pep Band to continue its performances at athletic events.

Three of seven Contracted Independent Organizations who plan to contest their budget allocations from the student activities fund appealed for a second time before the student activities committee yesterday. The remaining four organizations will appeal again within the next two weeks.

Tuesday April 15, Charlottesville City Council passed a $93.6 million budget with Councilor Rob Schilling casting the lone dissenting vote. Schilling voiced opposition to the one-cent meals tax increase, the use of that money and the budget as a whole. The budget subsequently passed by a 4-1 vote.
