The leadership team of Shakespeare on the Lawn did not know what the spring production of “Love’s Labour’s Lost” would look like come opening day — even when rehearsals started at the beginning of the semester. The pandemic and safety protocols shifted several of their past shows online, forcing the group to be creative about how to stage Shakespeare’s works using different online formats. This Friday and Saturday, the cast will take to the Zoom stage to perform the comedy.

Cover songs are a wonderful artistic medium. They create a never-ending web of connections — artists to artists, artists to listeners, listeners to listeners. Covers are the foraged fruits of a musical community. Personally, they’ve connected me to some of my all-time favorite artists. As a pre-teen, I first found out about Radiohead from a cover of “Creep,” performed by an a capella group on that one TV show “The Sing-Off” — back when a capella was really in its heyday. The Cursed Years. I really don’t want to imagine being a college student back in 2009. Argyle everywhere. Yes We Can-Not Dress. Nightmare material.

Many of us have had the experience of owning a pet at some point in our lives. Whether it be man’s best friend, a cat or even a fish, pets enrich our lives. I had the privilege and honor of owning a pet hamster, Nacho, when I was six years old.

Academia is a demanding and formidable pursuit. By the time American students head off to college, they have about 13 years of formal education under their belts. Many will choose to continue after undergrad — the cycle is seemingly unending with semester after semester spent in the classroom. It’s hard for most students to imagine a time when they were not spending the majority of the year in an academic institution of some kind.

I hope I don’t sound too pretentious when I say that I have never really been the type of person to spend hours watching television. While I will occasionally indulge in binge watching a show or a movie series, it is not my first choice on how to spend my free time.

Stability and consistency are something that many people — especially during these unprecedented times — are practically desperate for. I know I am. And as a result, I have searched through the limited depths of my mind for things that have been constant over the past several years of my existence. And, unfortunately, I have found that growth from kindergarten to college has resulted in instability of what one knows and agrees with. For example, in elementary school I was terrified of the Bermuda triangle. Yet years later, the only thing that reminded me of it was a Tweet asking if everyone had the collective experience of thinking the region would have more of an impact on their life than it has — that got me thinking.

Despite being only 21, I would consider myself to be pretty good at giving advice. However, I certainly do not think I am some fountain of wisdom. My friends may come to me for help, and most times I can think of how to best help them, but sometimes I do not have the answers. And that is because life is very confusing. Every individual approaches their lives with their own outlooks, offering various opinions on situations and different ways of tackling life.

This month marked one year since we began our now-infamous quarantine. About one year ago, I had my last day of high school on an unremarkable Thursday without even knowing it. The beginning of quarantine, however, offered us the opportunity to begin new routines and do our best to stay healthy.
