Any University student who has lived in Old Dorms most likely recalls beige and white walls — and not much else. But for a little while, students have been given the opportunity to add some more vibrant colors. Beginning in May, Hancock, Metcalf and Lefevre will be undergoing renovations — but currently they’re undergoing creative transformations.

Hundreds of children dressed in Halloween costumes gathered on the Lawn Wednesday evening with their families for the annual Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn — a University tradition that attracts members of the Charlottesville community, faculty, students and alumni with dozens of University groups volunteering to hand out candy.

The Honor Committee held its final meeting of the academic year Sunday evening. During the meeting, the Committee heard presentations from Kevin Warshaw, a third-year Engineering student and University Judiciary Committee chair, and Harper North, a second-year College and Batten student and incoming vice chair for selections for Housing and Residence Life. Each person spoke on their respective organization’s recruitment process for support officers and resident advisors.

Kevin Warshaw, a third-year Engineering student and newly elected UJC chair, asked Andy Petters, assistant dean of students at the University, to talk to members about how Housing and Residence Life decides to refer students for trial by the UJC.

Here at the University, I go by many names. While professors and faculty refer to me as a strict and arguably-foreign “Madeline,” those who see me as a friend know me as a short, simple and sweet “Maddie.” Throughout my life, I have noticed this strange balance between my alternate titles and how it seems to be the one reliable constant that influences my day-to-day life.
