Five weeks ago, No. 9 Virginia baseball opened its season with deep uncertainty about the trajectory of the season. D1 Baseball did not rank the team in the top 25, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association placed the team at the 24th position and Baseball America slotted the Cavaliers (20-5, 6-3 ACC) in at 14th in their respective preseason rankings.

In its last road trip of a busy March, No. 15 Virginia earned a pair of ACC victories in Florida, earning clean wins over Florida State and No. 30 Miami. The Cavaliers (13-4, 6-0 ACC) rotated their lineup slightly, defeating the Seminoles (4-12, 0-7 ACC) 4-0 Friday, then beating the Hurricanes (10-3, 6-1 ACC) 4-1 Sunday.

After a seven-and-a-half-hour bus ride, the Cavaliers arrived at the Orange’s Skytop Stadium for a Saturday double-header and Sunday closer. In their 24 hours of softball, Virginia (27-3, 6-2 ACC) clinched another ACC series, winning the first game 7-1 and the second game 9-4 before the final game against Syracuse (11-12, 0-5 ACC) was canceled due to inclement weather.

The International Residential College Council voted March 22 to adopt a new constitution, effective immediately, as the IRC approaches its 25th anniversary this fall. According to Philippe Hempel, IRC minister of community operations and third-year Architecture student, he began redrafting the Council’s constitution over winter break when Council members realized the previous constitution did not provide clear guidance to navigate it through challenges in the fall 2025 semester. Notably, in the fall, two IRC faculty members stepped out of their positions and two Council members resigned.

The Charlottesville Board of Zoning Appeals deadlocked in a two-to-two vote March 19 on the question of whether The Mark — a proposed private apartment complex in Fifeville — qualifies as an off Grounds student housing project. Fifeville resident Paul Reeder filed an appeal with the BZA in January, challenging the zoning administrator’s designation of the University’s “main campus areas” which narrowly puts The Mark in close enough proximity to the University to qualify for student housing incentives. However, both City Zoning Administrator Read Brodhead and the legal firm representing the housing developer, have argued against Reeder’s appeal.

The University’s Persian Cultural Society released a statement on Instagram March 12 responding to the defacement of their Beta Bridge mural. The PCS originally painted Beta Bridge Jan. 19 to call for increased democratic protections for Iranian citizens and to criticize the ruling system of the country.

The University Board of Elections released its Spring 2026 Rules Report Friday, outlining its handling of several complaints during the semester’s student elections, held Feb. 24-26. Among the detailed complaints is the ongoing Student Council presidential election dispute over alleged irregularities in the endorsement and campaigning processes. According to the report, UBE received 10 complaints during spring 2026 — nine of which related to student elections last month — and issued rulings in all cases. Two candidates were issued minor violations, and no major violations or disqualifications were issued.
