1) Family I would be nowhere without my family. There’s my mom, who forwards me about 12 emails a day about the happenings of Brad Pitt. My dad, whose favorite game to play with me is “Spot the Mester Brother in the Composite in His Old Frat House” at one in the morning on a Friday. My youngest brother, who can best be characterized by the list of things he is thankful for: electricity, fantasy football, the Constitution, “Mean Girls” and Eli Manning’s arm. And last, my middle brother, with whom I struggle for the custody of our car like it’s our child.
1) Hang out in Cabell Hall: Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like University buildings go a little overboard with their heat usage. Yes, it is cold outside and yes, most of us have to walk considerable distances to get to each class, but we don’t need to start instantly sweating upon entering a building. I may have sweat off two pounds during my history lecture today. Bottom line: If you’re looking for a place to get warm quickly, step into Cabell Hall. The blast of heat will motivate you to continue your walk to Wilson.
1 – Download the SelfControl App: This app allows you to block certain websites for a chosen amount of time. And when I say block certain websites, you can actually do things like restart your computer, restart your Internet or throw your laptop against a wall and it still won’t load. One of the most underrated inventions of all time, SelfControl is something I swear by when I have a deadline I need to complete.
1. “50 Shades of Grey”: There are two ways to do this and they’re both pretty bad. First, you could embody the Red Room of Pain (really regret having to Google that). Think Rihanna’s S & M but more, just more. The second way is to dress up in shades of gray — literally. Cue the eye roll.
1) Visit Carter Mountain Orchard There is nothing more reminiscent of fall than apple picking and hayrides. Carter Mountain Orchard offers both. Situated in Charlottesville, the orchard is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for apple picking and dining until November. Be on the lookout for their famous apple cider donuts.
1. Run late to every class. Turn poor planning or that totally necessary extra 10 minutes of sleep into a good thing. That uphill sprint plus your backpack will tone you right up.
