Third-year student Mike Hollins, one of two individuals who was injured in Sunday’s shooting, is being treated at the U.Va. Health. Hollins underwent a second surgery Tuesday morning, per a tweet from his mother — as of noon Tuesday, no additional updates on his condition have been provided.

Charlottesville Police arrested Bryan Silva Monday evening following a string of threatening social media posts Silva had made throughout the week, including a video of weapons ammunition. Silva has been convicted of multiple counts of prior possession of an illegal firearm and cannot own ammunition.

The University Police Department confirmed that the suspect in Sunday night’s shooting, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., was taken into custody Monday morning in Henrico County. University President Jim Ryan and Tim Longo, vice president for safety and security and chief of police, held a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m.

The University Police Department has arrested Albemarle County resident Shane Dennis in connection with the Sept. 7 hate crime and pile of items left at the Homer Statue last weekend. Dennis was taken into custody without incident and was charged with violating state law and was served with a No Trespass Order, per a University-wide email sent by University President Jim Ryan Tuesday afternoon.

In 1875, on a warm July day, the great poet Antonio Machado was born in Seville, Spain, in a stone building crawling with ivy. He died 63 years later in 1939 in France, one of thousands of Spanish citizens — many of them great writers, poets, musicians and artists — forced out of their homeland during the Spanish Civil War.

Richmond resident Jeffrey Thomas Jr. has filed a lawsuit against the University’s Board of Visitors alleging that the Freedom and Information Act Office has failed to produce records for a request for documents from Board member Bert Ellis in a timely manner. In his petition, Thomas says that he requested text messages from Ellis “related to his public service” Aug. 22.

When several hundred white supremacists gathered in Charlottesville five years ago to protest the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue from Market Street Park — then Emancipation Park — they left death and destruction in their wake. On Aug. 12, as “Unite the Right” rally participants were met with counter-protestors on the Downtown Mall, white nationalist James Alex Fields Jr. drove his Dodge Charger towards pedestrians on Fourth Street, injuring dozens and killing Charlottesville resident Heather Heyer.

The U.Va. Emergency Communications Center reported a potential bomb threat around 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at McLeod Hall. Per a statement from University spokesperson Bethanie Glover, the Center received a call regarding a suspicious package in the building.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced the appointment of four new members to the Board of Visitors Thursday — College and Darden alumnus Bert Ellis, previous Board member Stephen Long, Abingdon Town Council member and Education alumna Amanda Pillion and College and Law alumnus Doug Wetmore. The four new members will take their seats for the first time during the Board’s retreat in August.
