Though the presidential and vice presidential debates won’t take place in Charlottesville, the University has been vocal in the election so far. University President Teresa Sullivan sent a statement to the University community Monday encouraging students to vote by citing the leap Thomas Jefferson and his collaborators took in creating our self-government experiment. Meanwhile, the U.Va. Center for Politics joined the National Institute for Civil Disclosure in asking for civility from all parties in the upcoming presidential and vice presidential debates.

The Cavalier Marching Band has become a major presence on and off the football field since its founding 12 years ago, performing at every home game during this period and even the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band, which was started by Dr. William E. Pease in 2004, includes a head director, three assistant directors, four drum majors, 10 sections, 46 section leaders and about 300 members overall.

Virginia Republican leaders are asking the Virginia Supreme Court to hold Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe in contempt for ignoring the 4-3 ruling the court issued this past July, which prohibited the governor from endorsing the mass restoration of voting rights to over 200,000 felons who had been released from prison.
