University Police made an arrest Wednesday evening following an investigation into the two bomb threats sent to separate University medical facilities late Wednesday morning, according to a Thursday morning press release sent by University Police Lt. Melissa Fielding.

At approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday, the University Board of Elections voting website, www.uvavote.com, experienced “unplanned downtime” that was likely a crash due to heavy traffic. According to the Board, the occurrence prevented some students from voting during a two-hour window Monday morning, but did not alter votes which were already cast.

The Advancements and Communications Committee of the Board of Visitors met Thursday afternoon to discuss the University’s fundraising results for the past fiscal year. Alumni giving, corporate giving, foundation giving and friend giving were all addressed, and the University ranked very high among public institutions in most of these categories.

Student Council’s general body passed a resolution Tuesday in support of House Bill 747, a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to receive in-state tuition provided they meet certain requirements. Council’s resolution addressed the concerns and general support of various student groups.

Housing and Residence Life selected fourth-year College student Gaia Read and third-year College student Katie Somers on Wednesday night to serve as co-chairs for the upcoming school year. Co-chair is the highest position in Housing and Residence Life available to University students.

Last Monday marked the deadline for second-year College students to apply to the Commerce School. The McIntire Undergraduate Admissions Committee will consider applications and expects to notify students of their decision sometime in mid-March.

The Architecture School kicked off its third annual “Vortex” workshop project Monday, this year under the theme “29 North After the Sprawl,” in which students compete in teams to research solutions to traffic issues on Charlottesville’s Route 29. One winning team will be chosen this Sunday and present their findings to the city.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights announced Monday that it would join a lawsuit challenging Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage. The lawsuit aims to abolish the November 2006 Marshall-Newman Amendment to the Virginia State Constitution prohibiting same-sex marriage.
