Three University alumni filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Rolling Stone magazine, Sabrina Rubin Erdely and Wenner Media for defamation and negligence in regards to Erdely’s Nov. 19 article in Rolling Stone titled “A Rape On Campus,” alleging sexual assault by members of the University chapter of Phi Kappa Psi.

The University Board of Visitors approved Friday a $3.07 billion budget for the University during the 2015-16 fiscal year. The budget for the coming year is 8.4 percent larger than it was for 2014-15, and it will fund the University’s Academic Division, Medical Center and the College at Wise.

The University Judiciary Committee held elections Sunday evening to determine the four voting members of the executive committee. Third-year College student MacKenzie Austin was elected chair, third-year Engineering student Brittany Hungate was elected vice chair for sanctions, third-year Commerce student Brendan O’Hare was elected vice chair for first years and third-year Commerce student Miles Jackson was elected vice chair for trials. The four will choose the rest of the committee by next Sunday.

A team of graduate students from the Education School presented to the Honor Committee on Sunday the results of a student survey assessing the community’s interactions with and feelings toward the honor system. The survey found a great majority of students are aware of the honor system and its procedures, but many are uncomfortable with the consequences of an honor offense and are unlikely to report those they witness.

Chapter presidents of all National Panhellenic Conference sororities with University charters received a letter dated Jan. 20 on behalf of their national and international sorority presidents requesting the chapters refrain from participating in the 2015 fraternity Boy’s Bid Night.
