IT'S A testament to how awful the consensus clause is that despite numerous columns, editorials and letters that have appeared on these very pages, I was still able to hammer out an entire column with still more arguments against the consensus clause. It was supposed to be a short letter to the editor, but an idea this dangerous should not be lightly "peppered" by scrutiny but, rather, shot down and destroyed by the silver bullet of reason.

I WANTED more hate mail. As a lowly first-year Opinion columnist, I never felt I got my fair share of e-mails that ended with an expletive or an insult toward my mother. I wrote for the single sanction and against the single sanction (I flip-flopped); I wrote two columns in favor of affirmative action; I wrote for gays in the military and about comprehensive sexual health education.Nothing. My e-mail always seemed so painfully bare. Hate mail was a badge of honor in the Opinion department, and my criticism sash was empty. I even started to think people liked me.

On the next pages you are going to be bombarded with advice and wisdom from some of the best and brightest at this University. Although I could certainly dispense some valuable nuggets of my own, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you for your wisdom. But first I would like to introduce the institution behind the newspaper.

AS THE pundits analyze who "won" the vice-presidential debate by looking at who sighed the fewest number of times, a deep undercurrent is running through liberal America. Those same pundits will tell you it's anger -- pure, sometimes irrational hatred of George W. Bush as a result of bitterness over his contested election, his perceived stupidity or plain disgust with his trademark smirk. But liberal anger comes from something more serious than partisanship or personalities: it comes from fear -- fear for America's security and future.

I AM A RACIST. In two years, four semesters and countless hours of studying anything from the laws of supply and demand to Greek and Roman warfare, I came to this shocking -- and invaluable -- epiphany.

Along with accusations from late-night talk shows that John Kerry feasts on the living, the Bush attack machine has begun more substantive attacks on the Democratic candidate. Karl Rove has made it no secret that he wants to paint Kerry as not only a "Massachusetts liberal" but a man with an inconsistent voting record who has no principles. Kerry has done little to challenge this frame; instead, his campaign has tried to create a "credibility gap" for Bush while relying on Bush's campaign to self-destruct. However, Kerry needs to face his generalizations head on and fess up that he is indeed a New England liberal with an inconsistent voting record, but that he nevertheless remains the best candidate for the presidency.

FAIRFAX -- Winning an impressive majority yesterday in the Virginia primary, as well as a strong showing in Tennessee, the John Kerry cruiser is all but certain to have a successful return voyage to Boston for the Democratic convention. With his victories tonight, Kerry shattered any doubts about his ability to win -- and win big -- among Southern Democrats. However, the Democrats should not rush to any conclusions and assume this race is all said and done, because they need to make the senator even more electable.

AS IOWA demonstrated, Dr. Dean may have been too bitter a pill for most Americans to swallow. His mediocre showing in Iowa, a full 20 points behind John Kerry, has certainly slowed the pre-primary favorite down. Nevertheless, even if Dr. Dean goes down in defeat, his fellow Democrats should thank him because his campaign gave a much needed shot in the arm to the Democratic Party.

MY FAVORITE bumper sticker on my car reads like this: "The media is only as liberal as the conservative businesses that own them." Some would complain that it's too verbose for a bumper sticker, but I would argue the point is so significant it warrants breaking from the traditional epigram format. Contrary to what the raging right contends, particularly almost everyone on Fox News and Ann Coulter, there is no liberal media. Maybe there was one in the past, but I cannot emphasize this enough -- the era of the liberal media is over.

I WILL always have Dobie pride. My calves will always be stronger from marching up that hill multiple times a day. I still insist my friends refer to me as their Intramural Coordinator. I loved Dobie, and I loved new dorms.

THERE are three groups of Americans who do not have voting representatives in Congress: felons, children, and the 500,000 residents that live in the District of Columbia. However, only the residents of the District pay federal taxes, live under federal law, perform military service, and are actually governed by Congress themselves.

APATHY is the biggest threat to the University's honor system. Cheating, lying or stealing pales in comparison to the incredible indifference the student body displays towards the system they are supposed to run. As discovered in Honor Committee surveys, out of the 194 students who witnessed an honor offense, an abominable four students initiated a case (that's a blazing two percent for you statistics majors). The "community of trust" definitely needs a remodeling.

IT'S NOT what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country... and don't expect your country to help you out when you need it." This is the message Bush and Congress sent out to the thousands of Americorps members when they refused to fulfill funding promises for the organization founded by Clinton and supported by Bush after September 11. Americorps is similar to the Peace Corps in that with minimal government stipends, volunteers perform community service. Americorps, however, focuses on domestic issues by volunteering at schools, soup kitchens, inner cities or anywhere help is needed.

When I achieve my lifelong goal of becoming the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama, I want to put a giant statue of the Buddha in the rotunda of my court house. When the oppressive federal government tries to remove the statue and deny my First Amendment right to practice my religion.

FOR TWO years, liberals like myself have been frustrated about the state of the union. September 11 made President George W. Bush invincible. Critiques of the president became not only "wrong" in the eyes of the right, but also immoral and unpatriotic. When the media challenged the president, it was a demonstration of "liberal bias." If CNN, Fox News or MSNBC decided to not obsess about the war (and thus make it seem inevitable and right), they would lose ratings. It made a president who vowed to avoid nation building start a preemptive war to destroy and rebuild a nation. September 11 certainly did change the world -- and liberalism suffered.

AS THE University community is all too aware, recent state budget crises have drastically reduced funding to public colleges and universities nationwide. The University has generally embraced tuition hikes as a necessary evil to prevent a tragic decline in the quality of education and prestige. In a rare and politically unpopular move, the Board of Visitors raised in-state tuition by 11.2 percent as compared to the 6.9 percent hike for out-of-state students. The BOV -- unlike the General Assembly of the Commonwealth -- was able to realize in-state students were not paying the cost of their education due to declining funds from Richmond. As a result, The Cavalier Daily, Student Council and I have since embraced the BOV's actions.

WHAT'S a president to do when the economy is stuck in a rut and an election year is coming up? Cut taxes! What's a president to do when no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq yet? Cut taxes! What's a president to do when Hillary Clinton's new book gets more attention than the "Road Map" for Peace in the Middle East? Cut taxes! What's Bush going to do when a White House sink breaks? Cut taxes!

AS THE summer approaches, all eyes are on the Supreme Court as it decides the fate of affirmative action for higher education. However, the Court must allow universities to maintain race-based admissions practices for three important reasons: Racial diversity improves students' education; America's racist past needs to be rectified; and finally, no one has presented an alternative that works.

LET THE real war begin. The image of Iraqi citizens (with the help of U. S. troops) tearing down the statue of the most evil and oppressive dictator of Iraq was surely inspiring. Protesters, like myself suddenly saw a glimpse of hope that, possibly, we were wrong -- perhaps this war was a good thing. But the real war now is reconstructing Iraq. Americans must prepare for a long, arduous and expensive venture in Iraq to not only make Iraq safe for democracy, but also economically viable. We must demonstrate to the world our generosity, as well as our military might.

Michael Moore is a jerk. He exaggerates (and sometimes fabricates) his facts to force his extremely liberal point of view on the rest of America. He has little respect for the truth, and he sensationalizes problems with America. He is so quick to criticize everything that is American, and he rarely, if ever, acknowledges what is great about the good ol' U.S. of A.
