Steven Spielberg's War Horse is an old-school epic, and it comes with both the good and bad characteristics attached to that label. The movie's classic atmosphere means that although it moves at a slower pace than most modern moviegoers expect, War Horse is also incredibly well-made. Adapted from a critically acclaimed play, War Horse was hotly anticipated prior to its Christmas day release. Eager fans approached the movie with some caution, yet most were pleased by the adaptation.

All avid series readers know the feeling: a book series has come to an end, and you are left wondering how you will ever go on. For those of us who became entranced with Alagaesia and all of its wonders, it was a spell which began with the publishing of Eragon in 2003, and ended Nov. 8 when Christopher Paolini's Inheritance, the last book in the Inheritance cycle, was released.

Emilio Estevez's The Way leaves viewers with warm hearts and a desire to evaluate the meaning of their own lives. The movie is a well-done depiction of the story of retired ophthalmologist Tom Avery (Martin Sheen), who is dealing with the death of his son Daniel, portrayed by Estevez, Sheen's real-life son.

The Office of Diversity and Equity honored University President John T. Casteen, III at its Spring Conference of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by naming the new John T. Casteen, III, Diversity-Equity-Inclusion Leadership Award in his honor.

A report released by the American Association of University Professors revealed that the University pays its faculty the highest average salary of all higher education institutions in the state. Additionally, the organization reported that faculty salaries across the nation increased at the lowest rate in 50 years.

The University held a demonstration yesterday of the UVA Bay Game - a simulation created in collaboration with Azure Worldwide that allows players to take on the roles of individuals who live in the Chesapeake Bay watershed area. Roughly 100 students and about 20 guests participated in the two-hour event in Clark Hall, during which they tried out a technology that shows how daily decisions affect the bay's health.
